Among Amazon Web Services' most elite integrators, 2nd Watch is one of just 15 named Premier Consulting Partners. But its strengths lie squarely in infrastructure architecture and management. So the company is teaming up with Slalom Consulting, another close Amazon cloud partner, to help extend its expertise in business consulting and application development.

Under a new alliance, the two Seattle, Washington-based companies can bring more technical and business insight to companies planning cloud implementation or integration projects.
"This will allow a team of 2nd Watch and Slalom to be able to look at something like a datacenter migration in a much more holistic way," said Jeff Aden, co-founder and CEO of 2nd Watch.
Slalom is an Amazon Web Services Advanced Consulting Partner with more than 2,000 consultants across 11 North American cities. Two of its core competencies, aside from cloud services, are mobility and business intelligence solutions. The company reported $330 million for the 2012 calendar year, which was a 35 percent increase over the previous year. It plans to develop offices in Minneapolis and Houston during the next 12 months.

2nd Watch, which has about 50 employees, handled 200 cloud migration and implementation projects in 2012. Aside from Amazon, the company is closely allied with Microsoft as a Cloud Champion and Cloud Accelerate Partner.

Two of 2nd Watch's core products are 2W Insight, which is essentially a cloud billing dashboard that provides more granular insight into an organization's Amazon cloud consumption, and 2W SharePoint, its cloud-delivered version of the Microsoft collaboration portal. The company also offers a total cost of ownership calculator that provides a comparison between the expenses associated with running web applications in an on-premise IT infrastructure versus running them on the Amazon Web Services infrastructure.
